Posted on 09/18/2018
West NileCherokee County School District has received notification from county officials that a House Finch has tested positive for West Nile Virus. The response area is in the surrounding area of West Rutledge Avenue in Gaffney, SC, which includes both Granard Middle School and B.D. Lee Elementary School. We will monitor outside activities for the remainder of the week, and act accordingly, following DHEC guidelines. We kept the students inside today as a precaution, once we learned about the situation.

Information related to West Nile Virus and mosquito control can be found on the South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control (SCDHEC) website at the following link:https://www.scdhec.gov/health/diseases-conditions/insect-or-animal-borne-disease/infectious-diseases-diseases-spread-2. Cherokee County will notify local media outlets and Cherokee County residents of mosquito control activities through door to door home and business visits within the treatment area.

Spraying of adulticiding (mosquito control agent) as per SCDHEC recommendations by spray truck application will begin tonight, September 18, 2018. Additional applications of adulticiding treatment will be done in 72 hours and then again next week.
