At the conclusion of certain courses, students across South Carolina take an End-of-Course Exam (EOC). This exam counts 20% of a students final grade, and the results of these exams play a significant role in the ratings Blacksburg High School will receive on the yearly report card. To reward students for their hard work, BHS held a giveaway for prizes. Any student scoring an A had his or her name entered into the drawing 4 times, a B 3 times, a C 2 times, and a D 1 time. Any student who made a 100 on the exam gets his or her name added an extra time to the drawing. We will have another incentive drawing in May for students that take the EOC in May. Any student that passed the exam will also have the opportunity to participate in smaller incentives. BHS would like to take the time to thank the following businesses for helping make this incentive a reality. Without your support this would not be possible. BHS students toured Lenoir Rhyne University and Appalachian State University. The morning drizzle in Hickory did not dim their experience. Our students are excited to be ready for college.

COMMUNITY OUTREACH: Blacksburg Fire crews had a great time of interaction with students while attending a career fair at the Blacksburg High School on Wednesday. Many of our personnel who started out as volunteers have now entered full time employment with fire departments in Cherokee, Gaston and Mecklenburg counties. We’d like to thank the BHS staff for including us in this opportunity to reach more young folks in this area.

We appreciate all veterans, with a special thanks to those who are BHS alumni, including our two speakers yesterday, Adam Steele and Shad McDaniel. One again we were honored with the presence of Mr. M. D. Floyd, a World War II, Korea, and Vietnam veteran. Thank you to all who served!

From learning about academic programs to touring the beautiful campus, they got an inside look at what life could be like as a Lander Bearcat.
